If you're reading this there's a good chance we met you on the streets of Sochi during the Winter Olympics. We hope you enjoyed our performance of The Princess Frog. If you're not familiar with the story you can read one of many versions here.
To tell the story quickly on the streets of Sochi we had to focus the story and leave out many elements. There were many animals that helped Ivan Tsarevitch rescue Princess Vassilissa. We chose to focus on the fish.
In the first century, when Christians were being persecuted for their faith, they would draw half of a fish in the sand. A fellow believer would complete the fish, to let the other know it was safe to talk about Jesus. The Greek word for "fish" is ΙΧΘΥΣ. The letters stand forΊησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ", (Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr), which translates into English as "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior".
We chose the fish in our Princess Frog sketch because Jesus Christ defeated one worse than Koschei. When Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead he defeated Satan himself. Though Satan still has power in this world Jesus Christ made the way for all who put their trust in Him to enter into a relationship with God the Father and have life with Him forever.
Eric Metaxas was an atheist at Yale University, but he came to a point that he had to admit there was evidence for a supernatural power greater than us. He thought it was a cosmic energy force, until he had a dream about a fish that changed everything:
